Shoes + 80s Movies: McFly 2015

June 26, 2007 · 1 Comment

Shoes, and 80’s movies. two things I love. seriously. While they often come together in my dreams, rarely do the two genres collide. In comes McFly 2015.

What’s McFly 2015? It’s a grassroots movement to get Nike to make available to consumers the futuristic-looking sneakers seen in the 1989 movie Back to the Future Part 2.

Watch the video below. then check out their website, where you can sign the petition. funny and amusing idea. Curious whether or not I’ll ever hear anything more.

Pink: a (love) courier service on tour & in Portland, OR

June 21, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve meant to write about this for a while now, and I’m finally getting around to it. It’s just finishing up in Portland as part of Pedalpalooza.

The Project Pink Blog and MySpace page explains the entire concept better than I could:

pink: a (love) courier service is both a real life courier service & a site specific art installation. originally commissioned by first night austin and underwritten by the still water foundation, pink began in austin, texas, when a team of volunteer artists and cyclists, under the creative vision of conceptual artist jaclyn pryor, converted an empty downtown storefront into a small & temporary (love) factory. in the course of two short weeks, 2007 people visited pink, wrote love notes, & watched as pink-clad love couriers delivered them, by bicycle, throughout the city. pink is now on tour! first stop: portland, oregon, june 9th-june 23rd, as part of portland’s pedalpalooza festival. the portland love factory is located downtown, @ 318 sw taylor. hours of operation: tuesday-sunday, 11-7. come visit us & find out what it means to “put your love on the line” . . . !

Pretty cool concept; an interesting mix of public interaction, performance art, and a bunch of other cool stuff. It’s interesting to see how a wide variety of people and skills can come together for one project that falls into the realm of conceptual art. Cool stuff.

Flight of the Bumblebees & my world perspective

June 20, 2007 · No Comments

It has once again been an insane weekend, leaving me little time for anything but sleep. In my few short stints checking e-mails and attempting to whittle down the backed-up pile of my RSS feeds, I came across the following YouTube video three times, and it’s quite possibly been the highlight of the internet for me this past week. At a time when business is driving me to the brink of insanity, this video puts everything into an interesting perspective.

Shatner has charm… is quality… and hates gnomes.

June 13, 2007 · 1 Comment

saw this clip via adfreak earlier this morning and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I’ve always been a fan of the Travelocity Gnome for some reason, so this just seems perfect. and pretty random. Yet somehow fitting.

Penguin Love, Gert Boyle & YouTube: Together at Last.

June 12, 2007 · 1 Comment

So I first saw this YouTube spot in a post on How Advertising Spoiled Me. Apparently e-mailed to Arvind by BPN, Inc in Portland, it’s spreading by interesting means (I’m writing about it, and you’re reading about it… which in and of itself is interesting). Take a look at the comment banter at the YouTube page for some more interesting thoughts on the matter.

Personally, I find it kind of amusing. While admittedly a bit South Park-ish in animation style, there’s something kind of funny about Gert Boyle as an animated character. and about penguin’s humping. Do penguins even do that? I’m not sure, and I’m not sure I really want to know. Also interesting is that the video is posted under the profile of “ChairmanGert” adding another interesting PR level into the video.  Regardless, it’s some interesting stuff, especially for Columbia Sportswear. I’m curious to see how it ultimately pans out for everyone.

The ultimate question remains: Where does one purchase a spray bottle of penguin pheromone?

Busy working. and a bit on Creative Spaces.

June 8, 2007 · No Comments

creative spaces

So I keep posting saying I’m busy and hoping I’ll post more soon. It hasn’t happened yet. I apologize to those few of you who read regularly. I promise in the next few weeks, posting will get somewhat back to normal (whatever that really is). Anyway, as I’ve spent hours and hours in a variety of work spaces working on an equally varied number of different projects and tasks, I’ve been thinking a great deal about space.

When Russel Davies came out to Oregon and spoke, he spurred a great deal of discussion over “creative spaces.”

Last week, I came across Ilya Vedrashko’s post about This Ain’t No Disco { It’s Where We Work}, a new blog about agency interiors, complete with in-depth galleries of many spaces. Pretty cool stuff… I’ve been sucked in with more power than a Dyson.

Wish the spaces I’ve been working in lately could be even half that cool. I can dream. And get work done. Maybe someday…

Know Thy Enemy: The making of a manfrotto tripod

June 2, 2007 · 1 Comment

manfrotto.jpg

Last week, I went in to battle with a broken Manfrotto tripid, one with an insanely large (and consequently heavy) video head. In the process of attempting to repair it, said Manfrotto decided to attack, crushing my thumb in its cold, steely grip. To make a long and slightly bloody story short, my thumb looked like a cartoon character after being crushed by an anvil.

So in an effort to better know my newfound arch-rival, I’m attempting to learn all of Manfrotto’s weaknesses. Check out this video over at Gizmodo of the manufacturing process of a Manfrotto tripod. Pretty fascinating. It’s like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood meets LeVar Burton meets a very monotone Curtis Walker.
