French Firemen = race pit crew

May 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Sometimes a simple print ad with a simple yet slightly clever idea is all that’s necessary. This print ad from Euro RSCG Paris for the National Federation of French Firemen makes me laugh, but it also makes its point clearly and concisely. And I’ll probably associate race car speed with French firemen from here on out. Not that the topic of French firemen comes up all that often.

Making Zune Better? awesome spec for Zune

May 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

This is both uplifting and depressing. This speculative (i.e. not associated with Microsoft/Zune) spot was shot by Stewart Hendler in one day with a 7-person crew and a Red One camera. Pretty amazing, not even taking into consideration the concept/idea behind it all, which is equally uplifting and surprising. makes ya think a bit.

Weezer knows how to get YouTube views

May 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

When I first heard the track, I remembered why I like Weezer. Then I saw the video and realized why I love Weezer sometimes. After the Spike Jonze video for Buddy Holly, you’d think it’d be difficult to come out with anything amazing… yet the newest video for Pork & Beans seems to fit the bill.

2.5 million YouTube views in less than two days. Pretty impressive. Although personally, I think it could have used a bit of technoviking.

Inspiration: Cena7 & Emol

May 22, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’ve been captivated by this video and felt the need to share. Captivating because of the work, the music, and the video editing quality. Doesn’t usually work out that way. Cool stuff. Check out more Cena7 at his flickr page. And I wish I had a good link of Emol’s work… it absolutely blows me away.

Lacoste wants you to imagine the future

May 20, 2008 · 1 Comment

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, legendary brand Lacoste gives us a glimpse into the future (if Lacoste had its way). In addition to the video, which is pretty awesome in it’s own right, Lacoste has created Lacoste-Future, an impressive website that kept me captivated for a few minutes. Such an iconic brand doesn’t really need innovative advertising and marketing… which makes it great when they actually deliver something fresh and invigorating

Ready for Indiana Jones? with LEGOs?

May 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

There’s really not much to say about this. It’s pretty self-explanatory. Build giant boulder out of 5 million LEGOs. Force friend to dress up as Indiana Jones. Roll boulder down hill. Run. repeat. for some odd reason, this made my day.

Discovery Channel says the world is awesome

May 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just incase you haven’t seen it, check out this relatively new spot for the Discovery Channel. It’s pretty catchy in that whole-world sort of a way. And every time I stumble across it, it makes me smile a bit. Pretty simple, but pretty awesome.

Chevy takes a shot at Citroen with transformers

May 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’ve mentioned before how much I enjoy the Citroen C4 transformer spot, which incidentally was released years before the Transformers movie. My love for the spot makes it somewhat painful to watch this new spot from Chevy Europe.

It does make me laugh a bit, but the Citroen fan in me cringes just a bit. It’s a clever shot at Citroen, and while I’m not very familiar with Chevy’s marketshare in Europe, I’d imagine taking a shot at Citroen via one of their most widely talked about commercials is a pretty good tactic. Although part of me wants to criticize the creative as an easy parody. But all in all, it seems like a pretty effective spot with a strong message – as much as I hate to admit it.

Follow the jump to check out the original Citroen transformer spot.

Art meets shoes: Nike loves Mondrian

May 14, 2008 · 9 Comments

mondrian dunk

Anyone who knows me well knows of my affinity (a.k.a. problem) for shoes. And many are also aware of my love of art. While I certainly consider many shoes art, they don’t usually go hand-in-hand. But this past week, Nike released a new SB Dunk styled after the work of Piet Mondrian.

It’s cool to see Nike pay homage to great artists (even if it is just to get a cool colorway out of it), and it’s also cool to see people not familiar with the work of Mondrian getting exposed to it via hyped shoes.
There are rumors floating around that the Mondrian Dunk may be the first in a series of artist-inspired Dunks… I can only hope. Either way, it’s uplifting to see De Stijl on a Dunk.

Gnarls Barkley: Going On. Absolutely Amazing.

May 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I love Danger Mouse. And I love Cee-Lo. And while I liked what Gnarls Barkley was attempting to do on their first album, St. Elsewhere, I was a bit worried. I wasn’t 100% blown away by the music, and the performances, appearances, and show made it seem a likely candidate for a flash-in-the-pan type of album.  I certainly didn’t expect the duo’s second album, The Odd Couple, to be as rich and as evolved as it is. And I had anticipated that music videos would be predictably flashy and pop-ish.

Well, I was wrong. I’m absolutely in love with the video for “Going On,” the second single off of the new album (which released in March). I watched the video directed by Wendy Morgan at Revolver Films a few times early this morning, and it’s been on my mind all day. The artistic qualities, the filming, the message, and the feeling it yields are just beautiful. Hypebeast even goes as far as to call it “an artistic triumph.” Pretty awesome. And I have to say, I think I’m actually a Gnarls Barkley fan now.

If you’re into it, you should read the post/review over on Hypebeast.
