In case the action of this posting isn’t enough evidence, I have returned from my short vacation and am back in the real world, however real it may be. anyway, I’m sure I will have a good photo or two, and maybe even a bit of ad commentary on the ad microcosm that is Vegas at some point, but until then, I give you this.
I wasn’t sold on this campaign previously. but I think this spot is the turning point. Directed by the Acadamy Award-winning Cohen Brothers, this spot for the Reality Coalition is a bit more direct in it’s blatant criticism of the coal industry. which makes it more potent. and in case you’re wondering, The Reality Coalition is a joint project between the Alliance for Climate Protection, the Sierra Club, the National Wildlife Federation, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the League of Conservation Voters. That’s a big list of orgs. to band together. And the Reality Coalition website, This is Reality, continues to improve (with an awesome splash page) and their new blog is equally impressive. Socially responsible advertising at it’s best.
That’s right. for a solid five days, I’ll be basking in the artificial bug zapper that is Las Vegas. So this blog will fall temporarily silent (not that it’s something that hasn’t inadvertently happened occasionally). And on that notion of silence, I leave you with this beautiful clip brought to you by the venerable, incredible, and infallible Montastic.
sometimes there are those spots that just make me smile. sure, the concept may be a touch shaky, the copywriting may be iffy, and the execuiton doesn’t always make sense. but occasionally, it really doesn’t matter that much, because the spot makes me smile. This one for De Lijn, Belgium’s public transportation system, is one of those spots.
and I have to confess, I’m kind of a sucker for animated penguins. one more De Lijn spot (sans penguins) after the jump, if you’re so inclined.
it’s a simple idea for the WWF Australia, done by Leo Burnett Sydney, with a fairly simple execution… yet the style of animation combined with the mellow yet catchy and uplifting track by Fleet Foxes makes a solid and hopefully effective spot.
I wrote about the new pepsi logo a while back, and expressed uncertainty. Well, others have taken it further than uncertainty. I’m digging this in an oddly uncomfortable way.
The image is from San Francisco artist Lawrence Yang. Check out his impressive work at suckatlife.com, and his blog is at blowatlife.blogspot.com. It’s always cool when (good) artists get inadvertently thrust into the spotlight… and their work gets more exposure. Cool stuff. Via the always interesting BlackBunneh.
Take one the most famous hits of all time number one in 54 countries. Add the smooth vocals of Mr. Ray Parker Junior (not to mention a few quick costume changes). Mix with a pair of giant 118 118 runners boogying along with a few hundred revelers. Stir in a couple of angry goats and five pedaling Elvises (or should that be Elvi?). Throw in a long take for good measure. And you have the latest in a long line of fun-filled 118 118 commercials.
Fancy singing along with the legendary Ray Parker Junior? Come back next week to www.whoyougonnacall.tv. And dont forget to bring a photo.
I’m pretty much sold. None of the 118 spots really make a whole lot of sense, none are earshattering in any sense, but they’re pretty damn funny, and I’m always keepin’ an eye out for the next assuredly bizarre iteration.
This isn’t exactly a new idea… I feel like I’ve seen several different takes on the same principle in the past. But this one is so nicely done and enjoyable to use, I would feel bad not sharing.
It’s the Breadline Design “Name My Design Company Machine.” Click here to check it out in all its glory. It’s a winner in my book. and i just wasted more time than I should have repeatedly clicking the “lets go” button.
Okay. I’m a big fan of Asics/Onitsuka on the whole. I’ve written about a few other awesome pieces they’ve done. But this one takes the crazy cake. I know there’s some legend behind the “zodiac race” but this is one crazy interpretation, courtesy of Amsterdam Worldwide (the rebranded StrawberryFrog) with the help of production studio PandaPanther. Cool video. crazy stuff. Check out the behind-the-scenes ish video after the jump.
We all make mistakes. Some are significantly more humorous than others.
Once again, the amazing Montastic has brought light and joy into my life. This one has had me lauhging and/or chuckling for the better part of the morning. Thanks!
So the superbowl has come and gone, and it seems unnecessary and superfluous for me to post a bunch of superbowl ad stuff here. it’s pretty much everywhere, so if you’re really needing a superbowl ad fix, I’m sure you can find it somewhere else. Instead, I’ll show you the following bit of awesomeness. (and in case you haven’t seen, you can now click on the corner menu bar in the embedded youtube player to switch to HD, which I highly suggest you do for this one!)
The track is “Bubblicious”, by British DJ/remixer Rex The Dog (aka JX/Jake Williams). Directed by, Geoffroy De Crecy of Partizan Lab, he lets us in to all of the stop-motion tricks and techniques – which makes it that much more awesome.
